AFA
SEMI PRO FOOTBALL DIRECTORY PROJECT (click here to sign up)

Inasmuch as teams and leagues on our level could use a
little assistance attracting the attention of their local sports media, the
AFA has just announced that it will publish a National Media Guide for
Semi-Pro Football that teams and leagues will be able to show-off to the
sports writers (as well as the radio and TV sports directors) in their areas
- proving to them, once and for all, that their local semi-pro football
organization plays a consequential part in one of the fastest growing sports
movements in the country today . . . Semi-Pro Football.
The new publication is called the 2004 AFA Semi-Pro Football Media Guide -
"Facts and Records Book”. The information contained in the 300 plus page
book is from our own American Football News findings throughout the year(s)
and will be a recap of the 2003 AFA semi-pro football season. The book will
feature such information as the final league standings of all 60 different
leagues (and 615 semi-pro teams) that played in AFA competition last year as
well as an overview of the AFA’s first 24 years as the national association
for semipro football.
Readers will be able to see how each team ended the 2003 season as well as
checking out the 2004 league alignments. Want to see how your team stacks up
with the rest of the semi-pro football teams nationwide? This book will list
the 2003 final AFA ‘power ratings’ from top to bottom of all 615 teams in all
leagues (spring/summer/fall). Coaches, players, team and league
administrators will get an insight on how the AFA ‘power ratings’ work and
how accurate the database has become after 5 years and nearly 14,000 game
scores have been fed into it (do I hear statistical analysis next?)
A list of last years (2003) All-American selections and AFA "Gold Ball
Award" winners will help bring some much deserved notoriety to those
footballers singled out by the AFA as 2003 outstanding achievers on the
semi-pro football level. Players will be able to prove (for years to come)
that they were among the nations best on the semi-pro level during the 2003
season.
In addition, the post-season guidebook will list the names of more than a
thousand players over the years that have made the jump from the 'minors to
the majors' (NFL, CFL, WFL, USFL, etc.). Speaking of a thousand players - the
AFA Media Guide will also list the names of every player and head coach (over
1,000) who have had their names engraved on the AFA's National Championship
Trophy - the Arthur S. Arkush Memorial Cup - because they played on one of
the AFA's national championship teams over the past 24 years. A photo of the
4 1/2 foot high, two foot wide Arkush Cup is featured on the colorful 2004
Media Guide cover.
The book will give a complete breakdown, by category, of every person who has
ever been inducted into the AFA's Semi-Pro Football Hall of Fame over the
past 24 years. Along with the listing of names of these 431 Semi-Pro Football
Legends, will be many photos of the AFA Hall of Famers at their induction
ceremony and/or of them during their early playing days.
An update of semi-pro football records over the years researched by the AFA’s
esteemed Hall of Fame historian, Steve Brainerd, will be included as well.
What’s so impressive about being a semi-pro football record holder if you
can’t show anybody what you accomplished. The AFA Media Guide will be all the
proof our semi-pro football record setters will need to claim bragging rights
for their football accomplishments over the years!
Join one of the AFA’s four affiliate programs (AFA Coaches Assn., AFA Players
Assn., AFA Officials Assn., and/or the AFA Semi-Pro Football Alumni Assn.)
before the book publishing date and have your name listed as an official
member and supporter of the American Football Association for 2004.
There's more, but I guess you'll have to wait until the book comes out in
print to see what the AFA has done to help you promote our level of the sport
in your area. The 2004 Media Guide will be printed and available for
distribution prior to the AFA's Summer Commissioners Meeting weekend (dates
and location to be announced in an upcoming press release).
Prior to the printing date, the AFA will send out a press release announcing
how semi-pro football junkies can purchase one of these informational
treasures, which is sure to be a football collectors item. The progressive
teams will want several copies to use as ‘show and tell’ to impress their
local media people that their team (and league) is a big part of the AFA
national association’s “Semi-Pro and Proud” movement.
The AFA national office wishes to thank all those who contributed information
(records, statistics, names, advertisements, etc.) for our extensive 300 page
2004 AFA Semi-Pro Football Media Guide - as well as to those who will support
the AFA’s efforts to bring more awareness to the semi-pro level of the sport
by purchasing a copy or two of this informative publication.
The cost of the 2004 Media Guide and method for ordering ‘specially
discounted’ (for AFA Members) ‘First Edition’ advanced copies will be
published in an up coming AFA Press Release. Complimentary copies of the 2004
AFA Semi-Pro Football Media Guide will be mailed to every NFL and Arena
Football League team to use as a reference book for learning more about our
level of the sport and why the AFA national association is so “Semi-Pro and
Proud” of our member teams and leagues - these days.
