We, The World to Launch 11 Days of Global Unity in over 100 Cities September 11-21, 2004

We, TheWorld, a non-profit organization that promotes peace and environmental groups and issues to the public through major events and the Internet, announces the launch of 11 Days of Global Unity, to be held Sept. 11-21, 2004, in over 100 cities worldwide.

11 Days consists of live concerts, festivals, broadcasts, webcasts, coordinated civic actions, voter registration, public signings of the Declaration of Interdependence derived from the Earth Charter and other activities. This international celebration is designed to maximize public awareness about humanity's major challenges (poverty, armed conflict, human rights violations, ecological damage) and encourage involvement in the solutions.

11 Days Partner organizations have scheduled events in over 40 cities throughout the U.S., including New York City, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Phoenix, Burlington, Chicago, Kihei (Hawaii), and across the world in South America, Canada, Europe, Africa, Australia and Asia.

Featured events during 11 Days include: Interdependence Day Festival 2004, Sept. 12 in New York City; the Green Festival in Washington, D.C., Sept. 18-19; Earth Dance 2004 in over 50 countries; Week of Global Interfaith Dialogues in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Western Hemisphere; Jane Goodall Institute - Roots & Shoots Youth Program Peace Dove Global "Flying" on Sept. 21 in over 70 countries; and the culminating 11 Days event "Our Voices, Our World" in New York City celebrating the U.N.-designated International Day of Peace on Sept. 21. This event will feature UN Peace Messenger Dr. Jane Goodall and other visionary speakers and performers in a 3 1/2 hour broadcast event designed to maximize public awareness of the challenges humanity now faces, and to celebrate and facilitate involvement in the solutions.

Honorary co-chairs for 11 Days include: Jane Goodall, Irene Khan (Secretary General, Amnesty International), Marianne Williamson, Hazel Henderson, Ervin Laszlo, Barbara Marx Hubbard, Robert Thurman, Riane Eisler and others. Partner organizations include Amnesty International, the Jane Goodall Institute's Roots & Shoots Youth Program, the Department of Peace Initiative, the Earth Charter Initiative and many others.

We, The World was founded in 1998 by Rick Ulfik, an award-winning TV and film composer-turned peace and environmental organizer. He is one of the founding organizers of the United Nations Gandhi/King Season for Nonviolence, the 1998 launch of which was endorsed by the Dalai Lama and Kofi Annan, with participation by close to 2,000 people including Jesse Jackson and Arun Gandhi, over 500 organizations, and events taking place in 115 cities. He also was one of three principal organizers of Re-Imagining Politics and Society at the Millennium, a Foundation for Ethics and Meaning conference in May 2000, which featured over 200 speakers from around the world including Wei Jingsheng, Cornel West, Michael Lerner, David Korten, Naomi Klein, Arianna Huffington, Mark Green, Patricia Ireland, Cora Weiss and Marianne Williamson. Ulfik also co-produces a television show called Visual Voices.
