Recent SAFETY Act Designations Designations The following technologies have been granted "Designation" pursuant to 6 U.S.C. § 441-444 (the Support Anti-terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies Act of 2002, or "SAFETY Act") and 6 C.F.R. Part 25 (Regulations to Support Anti-terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies): Gunnar Manufacturing, Inc.: Protective Office Furniture SystemJuly 26, 2006 – Gunnar Manufacturing, Inc., provides the Protective Office Furniture System, a suite of furniture consisting of a desk, bridge, credenza with overhead storage unit, a box/box/file pedestal, two-drawer lateral file cabinet and a Personal Protection Pod (PPP). It is intended to help safeguard office workers by providing them a safe place to hide under their desks in the event of a structural ceiling collapse due to natural disaster, criminal activity, or terrorist act. This Designation will expire on August 31, 2011. Washington Group International, Inc.: Threat and Vulnerability Assessment and Risk Mitigation ServicesJune 2, 2006 – Washington Group International, Inc., provides Threat and Vulnerability Assessment and Risk Mitigation Services for the protection of public and commercial infrastructure from acts of terrorism. These services provide recommendations on the vulnerabilities of infrastructure and ways to mitigate threats through engineering and technical support services. This Designation will expire on May 31, 2011. Pitney Bowes, Inc.: Biohazard Isolation and Screening System (BISS)May 17, 2006 – Pitney Bowes, Inc., provides the Biohazard Isolation and Screening System (BISS). The BISS can be used to isolate incoming mail into bagged batches and extract air samples from the bags. Each air sample is passed through a filter which is then sealed in a container and made available for analysis. This Designation will expire on February 28, 2011. FP Technologies, Inc.: VIGILAIRTM Bio-defense SystemMay 12, 2006 – FP Technologies, Inc., provides the VIGILAIRTM Bio-defense System, an air handler protection unit that is installed inside a building’s air handler to help protect a building’s ventilation system from a potential biological weapons attack. This Designation will expire on March 31, 2011. The Raytheon Company: Perimeter Intrusion Detection System (PIDS)April 5, 2006 – The Raytheon Company provides Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems (PIDS). PIDS are integrated systems that provide intrusion detection through a combination of proven subsystems such as surveillance radars, video motion detectors, CCTV, thermal cameras and “smart fences”. The Designation will expire April 30, 2011. Lockheed Martin Corporation: MetroGuard™October 26, 2004 - Lockheed Martin Corporation's MetroGuard™, for public facility protection applications, provides an early warning of chemical, biological or radiological agent release through the use of a network of single-point Remote Detector Units (RDU). The release event is communicated by the RDU to one or more base station control computers which receive and process sensor data for system operators and first responders, thus enabling implementation of response protocols. This designation will expire on October 26, 2009.
