Media Advisory: Vaccine Court & Autism Media Briefing

A conference call will be held to brief interested parties on the issues surrounding vaccines and the debate over autism.

(PRWEB) May 10, 2008 -- A conference call will be held to brief interested parties on the issues surrounding vaccines and the debate over autism.

Conference Call

Representatives of Petitioners' Steering Committee
Will Brief News Organizations on the Thimerosal/Autism Hearings in
"Vaccine Court", Scheduled to Begin May 12, 2008 in Washington, D.C.

WHO:
Mike Williams, Co-Chair Petitioners' Steering Committee Tom Powers, Chair of the Petitioners' Discovery Committee

WHAT:
Omnibus Autism Proceeding: Autism/Thimerosal Trial Begins May 12
Thimerosal is mercury-based preservative added to many childhood vaccines until its use was phased out amid concerns that unnecessary mercury exposures posed a health risk to children. Unfortunately, many children exposed to the mercury-laden thimerosal developed autism. Over 4800 autistic children have filed claims in the federal Vaccine Court alleging that their injuries were caused by thimerosal.

Two of those autistic children will take their mercury-injury claims to trial in "Vaccine Court" in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims in Washington, DC beginning on Monday, May 12. Decisions in these two "test cases" will help decide the outcomes of hundreds of other claims in Vaccine Court.

This conference call will include general information on the autism litigation in Vaccine Court, the stories of the two families whose cases go to trial next week, and an outline of the scientific evidence and proof the claimants will present at trial.

WHEN:
Friday, May 9 from 3 - 4 p.m. ET
